A replica cap for the German M31 field bottle, made from Bakelite.

This cap has the same basic design as the earlier aluminum caps. In 1940, the German army moved to a similar cap made from a cheaper material.

How to install the peg in the cap: the peg can be fixed with epoxy resin, which is a reliable and safe method and helps keep the cap tight. Compatible pegs and red rubber gaskets are sold separately.

Copy vs. original

These photos show how closely our reproduction matches an original cap. The two are virtually impossible to distinguish without close examination. Our reproduction is cast from a mold taken directly from an original cap and made from the same material, Bakelite, rather than a modern plastic substitute.

Historical reference

Wartime German M31 field bottles are documented with Bakelite screw caps and strap retainers. These caps formed part of a complete carrying assembly that also held the cover and drinking cup.
